411 AN ACT
512 relating to the time for making required reports of deceased
613 residents of this state to a voter registrar and to the secretary of
714 state.
815 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
916 SECTION 1. Sections 16.001(a) and (b), Election Code, are
1017 amended to read as follows:
1118 (a) Each month the local registrar of deaths shall prepare
1219 an abstract of each death certificate issued in the month for a
1320 decedent 18 years of age or older who was a resident of the state at
1421 the time of death. The local registrar of deaths shall file each
1522 abstract with the voter registrar of the decedent's county of
1623 residence and the secretary of state as soon as possible, but not
1724 later than the seventh [10th] day after the date [of the month
1825 following the month in which] the abstract is prepared.
1926 (b) Each month the clerk of each court having probate
2027 jurisdiction shall prepare an abstract of each application for
2128 probate of a will, administration of a decedent's estate, or
2229 determination of heirship, and each affidavit under Chapter 205,
2330 Estates Code, that is filed in the month with a court served by the
2431 clerk. The clerk shall file each abstract with the voter registrar
2532 and the secretary of state as soon as possible, but not later than
2633 the seventh [10th] day after the date [of the month following the
2734 month in which] the abstract is prepared.
2835 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
