55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to funding under the transportation allotment for
88 transportation related to career and technology education and the
99 use of transportation allotment funds by school districts to
1010 provide prepaid fuel cards to certain students.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Sections 48.151(f) and (l), Education Code, are
1313 amended to read as follows:
1414 (f) The cost of transporting career and technology
1515 education students from a school bus stop to a campus or one campus
1616 to another inside a district, from a sending district to another
1717 secondary public school for a career and technology program or an
1818 area career and technology school or to an approved post-secondary
1919 institution under a contract for instruction approved by the
2020 agency, or from a school bus stop or district campus to a location
2121 at which students are provided work-based learning under the
2222 district's career and technology program shall be reimbursed based
2323 on the number of actual miles traveled times the district's
2424 official extracurricular travel per mile rate as set by the board of
2525 trustees and approved by the agency.
2626 (l) A school district may, with the funds allotted under
2727 this section, provide a bus pass, [or] card for another
2828 transportation system, or prepaid fuel card to each student who is
2929 eligible to use the regular transportation system of the district
3030 but for whom the regular transportation system of the district is
3131 not a feasible method of providing transportation, including to a
3232 location at which students are provided work-based learning under
3333 the district's career and technology program. The commissioner by
3434 rule shall provide procedures for a school district to provide bus
3535 passes, [or] cards for another transportation system, or prepaid
3636 fuel cards to students under this subsection.
3737 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
