|---|
| 9 | 9 | | use of transportation allotment funds by school districts to |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | provide prepaid fuel cards to certain students. |

| 11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Sections 48.151(f) and (l), Education Code, are |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (f) The cost of transporting career and technology |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | education students from a school bus stop to a campus or one campus |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | to another inside a district, from a sending district to another |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | secondary public school for a career and technology program or an |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | area career and technology school or to an approved post-secondary |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | institution under a contract for instruction approved by the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | agency, or from a school bus stop or district campus to a location |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | at which students are provided work-based learning under the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | district's career and technology program shall be reimbursed based |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | on the number of actual miles traveled times the district's |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | official extracurricular travel per mile rate as set by the board of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | trustees and approved by the agency. |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | (l) A school district may, with the funds allotted under |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | this section, provide a bus pass, [or] card for another |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | transportation system, or prepaid fuel card to each student who is |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | eligible to use the regular transportation system of the district |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | but for whom the regular transportation system of the district is |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | not a feasible method of providing transportation, including to a |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | location at which students are provided work-based learning under |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | the district's career and technology program. The commissioner by |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | rule shall provide procedures for a school district to provide bus |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | passes, [or] cards for another transportation system, or prepaid |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | fuel cards to students under this subsection. |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
