55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to a study by the Texas Water Development Board of
88 groundwater conditions in certain counties.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. In order to engage in a scientific inquiry and
1111 analysis regarding current and projected groundwater production
1212 and to assess the effects of that production on groundwater
1313 conditions, the executive administrator of the Texas Water
1414 Development Board shall, for the Trinity and Edwards Aquifers north
1515 of the Colorado River in Bell, Burnet, Milam, Travis, and
1616 Williamson Counties:
1717 (1) compile and evaluate current data on groundwater
1818 levels, aquifer characteristics, and groundwater use and
1919 production; and
2020 (2) fully assess the effects of current and projected
2121 groundwater production on groundwater conditions.
2222 SECTION 2. Not later than September 1, 2022, the executive
2323 administrator of the Texas Water Development Board shall:
2424 (1) complete the compilation, evaluation, and
2525 assessment of data described by Section 1 of this Act;
2626 (2) prepare a report of the findings of the
2727 compilation, evaluation, and assessment;
2828 (3) submit the report to each standing committee of
2929 the legislature having primary jurisdiction over water
3030 development; and
3131 (4) make copies of the report available to the public.
3232 SECTION 3. This Act expires September 1, 2023.
3333 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3434 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3535 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3636 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3737 Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
