55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to entrance examinations for applicants for beginning
88 positions in fire and police departments in certain municipalities.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 143.025, Local Government Code, is
1111 amended by adding Subsection (f-1) and amending Subsection (i) to
1212 read as follows:
1313 (f-1) In a municipality with a population of more than 1.3
1414 million and less than 2 million, an additional five points shall be
1515 added to the examination grade of an applicant who:
1616 (1) is a resident of the municipality in which the
1717 applicant seeks employment;
1818 (2) has resided in the municipality continuously for
1919 at least one year before taking the examination; and
2020 (3) receives a passing grade on the examination.
2121 (i) The grade to be placed on the eligibility list for each
2222 applicant shall be computed by adding an applicant's points under
2323 Subsections [Subsection] (f) and (f-1), if any, to the applicant's
2424 grade on the written examination. Each applicant's grade on the
2525 written examination is based on a maximum grade of 100 percent and
2626 is determined entirely by the correctness of the applicant's
2727 answers to the questions. The minimum passing grade on the
2828 examination is 70 percent. An applicant must pass the examination
2929 to be placed on an eligibility list.
3030 SECTION 2. Section 143.025, Local Government Code, as
3131 amended by this Act, applies only to an examination administered on
3232 or after the effective date of this Act.
3333 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
