| 6 | 6 | | relating to the instruction about bullying and harassment in the |

| 7 | 7 | | required health curriculum for public school students. |

| 8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Section 28.002(s), Education Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | (s) In this subsection, "bullying" has the meaning assigned |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | by Section 37.0832 and "harassment" has the meaning assigned by |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Section 37.001. In addition to any other essential knowledge and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | skills the State Board of Education adopts for the health |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | curriculum under Subsection (a)(2)(B), the board shall adopt for |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the health curriculum, in consultation with the Texas School Safety |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Center, essential knowledge and skills that include: |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (1) evidence-based practices that will effectively |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | address awareness, prevention, identification, self-defense in |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | response to, and resolution of and intervention in bullying and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | harassment; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (2) evidence-based practices that will effectively |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | teach students respect for another person's autonomy and confidence |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | in protecting their own bodily autonomy. |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2021-2022 |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | school year. |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
