55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the age qualifications for a person elected or
88 appointed to serve as a district judge.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 24.001, Government Code, is amended to
1111 read as follows:
1212 Sec. 24.001. AGE QUALIFICATION OF JUDGES. On the date of
1313 election or appointment, a [A] district judge must be:
1414 (1) at least 25 years of age; and
1515 (2) not older than 74 years of age [old].
1616 SECTION 2. Section 24.001, Government Code, as amended by
1717 this Act, applies only to a district judge who is elected or
1818 appointed on or after the effective date of this Act. A district
1919 judge elected or appointed before the effective date of this Act
2020 continues to serve for the term to which the judge was elected or
2121 appointed unless otherwise removed as provided by law.
2222 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
