| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 24.001, Government Code, is amended to | |
| 11 | 11 | read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Sec. 24.001. AGE QUALIFICATION OF JUDGES. On the date of | |
| 13 | 13 | election or appointment, a [A] district judge must be: | |
| 14 | 14 | (1) at least 25 years of age; and | |
| 15 | 15 | (2) not older than 74 years of age [old]. | |
| 16 | 16 | SECTION 2. Section 24.001, Government Code, as amended by | |
| 17 | 17 | this Act, applies only to a district judge who is elected or | |
| 18 | 18 | appointed on or after the effective date of this Act. A district | |
| 19 | 19 | judge elected or appointed before the effective date of this Act | |
| 20 | 20 | continues to serve for the term to which the judge was elected or | |
| 21 | 21 | appointed unless otherwise removed as provided by law. | |
| 22 | 22 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
