9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 1701.4521(a), Occupations Code, is | |
11 | 11 | amended to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | (a) The commission shall suspend the license of an officer | |
13 | 13 | licensed under this chapter on notification that the officer has | |
14 | 14 | been dishonorably discharged [if the officer has previously been | |
15 | 15 | dishonorably discharged from another law enforcement agency]. | |
16 | 16 | SECTION 2. (a) In this section, "dishonorably discharged" | |
17 | 17 | has the meaning assigned by Section 1701.452, Occupations Code. | |
18 | 18 | (b) Section 1701.4521(a), Occupations Code, as amended by | |
19 | 19 | this Act, applies only to the suspension of a license issued under | |
20 | 20 | Chapter 1701, Occupations Code, for a law enforcement officer who | |
21 | 21 | is dishonorably discharged on or after the effective date of this | |
22 | 22 | Act. The suspension of a license for a law enforcement officer who | |
23 | 23 | is dishonorably discharged before the effective date of this Act is | |
24 | 24 | governed by the law as it existed immediately before the effective | |
25 | 25 | date of this Act, and that law is continued in effect for that | |
26 | 26 | purpose. | |
27 | 27 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
