66 AN ACT
77 relating to the suspension of the license of a dishonorably
88 discharged law enforcement officer.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 1701.4521(a), Occupations Code, is
1111 amended to read as follows:
1212 (a) The commission shall suspend the license of an officer
1313 licensed under this chapter on notification that the officer has
1414 been dishonorably discharged [if the officer has previously been
1515 dishonorably discharged from another law enforcement agency].
1616 SECTION 2. (a) In this section, "dishonorably discharged"
1717 has the meaning assigned by Section 1701.452, Occupations Code.
1818 (b) Section 1701.4521(a), Occupations Code, as amended by
1919 this Act, applies only to the suspension of a license issued under
2020 Chapter 1701, Occupations Code, for a law enforcement officer who
2121 is dishonorably discharged on or after the effective date of this
2222 Act. The suspension of a license for a law enforcement officer who
2323 is dishonorably discharged before the effective date of this Act is
2424 governed by the law as it existed immediately before the effective
2525 date of this Act, and that law is continued in effect for that
2626 purpose.
2727 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
