8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Section 662.003(b), Government Code, is amended | |
10 | 10 | to read as follows: | |
11 | 11 | (b) A state holiday includes only the following days: | |
12 | 12 | (1) the 19th day of January, "COVID-19 Heroes Day," in | |
13 | 13 | honor of the frontline workers, essential personnel, and all Texans | |
14 | 14 | who sacrificed during the pandemic ["Confederate Heroes Day," in | |
15 | 15 | honor of Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and other Confederate | |
16 | 16 | heroes]; | |
17 | 17 | (2) the second day of March, "Texas Independence Day"; | |
18 | 18 | (3) the 21st day of April, "San Jacinto Day"; | |
19 | 19 | (4) the 19th day of June, "Emancipation Day in Texas," | |
20 | 20 | in honor of the emancipation of the slaves in Texas in 1865; | |
21 | 21 | (5) the 27th day of August, "Lyndon Baines Johnson | |
22 | 22 | Day," in observance of the birthday of Lyndon Baines Johnson; | |
23 | 23 | (6) the Friday after Thanksgiving Day; | |
24 | 24 | (7) the 24th day of December; and | |
25 | 25 | (8) the 26th day of December. | |
26 | 26 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
