55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the designation of Women's Equality Day as a state
88 holiday.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 1.006(f)(2), Election Code, is amended
1111 to read as follows:
1212 (2) "State holiday" means a state holiday under
1313 Sections 662.003(b)(1) through (7) [(6)], Government Code.
1414 SECTION 2. Section 662.003(b), Government Code, is amended
1515 to read as follows:
1616 (b) A state holiday includes only the following days:
1717 (1) the 19th day of January, "Confederate Heroes Day,"
1818 in honor of Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and other Confederate
1919 heroes;
2020 (2) the second day of March, "Texas Independence Day";
2121 (3) the 21st day of April, "San Jacinto Day";
2222 (4) the 19th day of June, "Emancipation Day in Texas,"
2323 in honor of the emancipation of the slaves in Texas in 1865;
2424 (5) the 26th day of August, "Women's Equality Day";
2525 (6) the 27th day of August, "Lyndon Baines Johnson
2626 Day," in observance of the birthday of Lyndon Baines Johnson;
2727 (7) [(6)] the Friday after Thanksgiving Day;
2828 (8) [(7)] the 24th day of December; and
2929 (9) [(8)] the 26th day of December.
3030 SECTION 3. Section 662.021, Government Code, is amended to
3131 read as follows:
3232 Sec. 662.021. DATES OF HOLIDAYS. A legal holiday includes
3333 only the following days:
3434 (1) a national holiday under Section 662.003(a); and
3535 (2) a state holiday under Sections 662.003(b)(1)
3636 through (7) [(6)].
3737 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3838 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3939 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
4040 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
4141 Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
