66 AN ACT
77 relating to abolishing Confederate Heroes Day.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 1.006(f)(2), Election Code, is amended
1010 to read as follows:
1111 (2) "State holiday" means a state holiday under
1212 Sections 662.003(b)(1) through (5) [(6)], Government Code.
1313 SECTION 2. Section 662.003(b), Government Code, is amended
1414 to read as follows:
1515 (b) A state holiday includes only the following days:
1616 (1) [the 19th day of January, "Confederate Heroes
1717 Day," in honor of Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and other
1818 Confederate heroes;
1919 [(2)] the second day of March, "Texas Independence
2020 Day";
2121 (2) [(3)] the 21st day of April, "San Jacinto Day";
2222 (3) [(4)] the 19th day of June, "Emancipation Day in
2323 Texas," in honor of the emancipation of the slaves in Texas in 1865;
2424 (4) [(5)] the 27th day of August, "Lyndon Baines
2525 Johnson Day," in observance of the birthday of Lyndon Baines
2626 Johnson;
2727 (5) [(6)] the Friday after Thanksgiving Day;
2828 (6) [(7)] the 24th day of December; and
2929 (7) [(8)] the 26th day of December.
3030 SECTION 3. Section 662.021, Government Code, is amended to
3131 read as follows:
3232 Sec. 662.021. DATES OF HOLIDAYS. A legal holiday includes
3333 only the following days:
3434 (1) a national holiday under Section 662.003(a); and
3535 (2) a state holiday under Sections 662.003(b)(1)
3636 through (5) [(6)].
3737 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
