8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Section 86.006, Election Code, is amended by | |
10 | 10 | amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (a-2) to read as | |
11 | 11 | follows: | |
12 | 12 | (a) A marked ballot voted under this chapter must be | |
13 | 13 | returned to the early voting clerk in the official carrier | |
14 | 14 | envelope. The carrier envelope may be delivered in another | |
15 | 15 | envelope and must be transported and delivered only by: | |
16 | 16 | (1) mail; | |
17 | 17 | (2) common or contract carrier; [or] | |
18 | 18 | (3) subject to Subsection (a-1), in-person delivery by | |
19 | 19 | the voter who voted the ballot; or | |
20 | 20 | (4) subject to Subsection (a-2), delivery to an | |
21 | 21 | authorized depository box. | |
22 | 22 | (a-2) The voter may deliver a sealed carrier envelope | |
23 | 23 | containing a marked ballot to any depository box authorized by the | |
24 | 24 | early voting clerk. The early voting clerk may authorize any number | |
25 | 25 | of suitable locations for placement of a depository box. | |
26 | 26 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
