 AN ACT
relating to an oath for peace officers and reserve law enforcement

SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 1701, Occupations Code, is

Sec. 1701.3095. REQUIRED OATH FOR OFFICERS. (a) The
commission shall require each person who passes the examination
required under this chapter for the issuance of a license as an
officer to sign and submit to the commission the following oath:
I solemnly swear (or affirm) that, as an officer:
I pledge allegiance to the United States Constitution, and to
the republic for which it stands, one nation under God,
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
I will recognize that the authority to perform my duties and
powers requires the approval of my actions and behavior by the
 people.
I will recognize that the test of domestic tranquility is the
extent of support and participation of the people, and crime and
disorder is a breach of that tranquility.
I will recognize that the protection of the general welfare
includes responding to crime and disorder and the cooperation and
compliance of individuals with whom I will have contact in the due
 course of law.
I will recognize that the use of physical force is authorized
by the people only when persuasion and warnings are insufficient,
and only to the degree immediately necessary to restore a safe
 environment.
 (b) The commission shall prescribe a form for the oath
 required by Subsection (a).
