9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 1701, Occupations Code, is | |
11 | 11 | amended by adding Section 1701.269 to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | Sec. 1701.269. TRAINING PROGRAM RELATING TO COUNTY JAILER | |
13 | 13 | INTERACTIONS WITH PERSONS WITH INTELLECTUAL OR DEVELOPMENTAL | |
14 | 14 | DISABILITIES. (a) The commission and the Commission on Jail | |
15 | 15 | Standards shall jointly develop a training program for county | |
16 | 16 | jailers that consists of at least four hours of education and | |
17 | 17 | training on interacting with a person with an intellectual or | |
18 | 18 | developmental disability who is confined in a county jail, | |
19 | 19 | including techniques to assess a person for an intellectual or | |
20 | 20 | developmental disability. | |
21 | 21 | (b) A county jailer who completes the training program may | |
22 | 22 | count the hours toward the jailer's continuing education | |
23 | 23 | requirements under this chapter. | |
24 | 24 | SECTION 2. Not later than January 1, 2022, the Texas | |
25 | 25 | Commission on Law Enforcement shall develop the training program | |
26 | 26 | required by Section 1701.269, Occupations Code, as added by this | |
27 | 27 | Act. | |
28 | 28 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
