411 AN ACT
512 relating to measures to support or enhance graduate medical
613 education for the practice of podiatric medicine in this state.
714 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
815 SECTION 1. Section 58A.001(5), Education Code, is amended
916 to read as follows:
1017 (5) "Graduate medical education program" means:
1118 (A) a nationally accredited post-doctor of
1219 medicine (M.D.) or post-doctor of osteopathic medicine (D.O.)
1320 program that prepares physicians for the independent practice of
1421 medicine in a specific specialty area; and
1522 (B) a nationally accredited post-doctor of
1623 podiatric medicine (D.P.M.) program that prepares podiatrists for
1724 independent practice in the specialty area of podiatry.
1825 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1926 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2027 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2128 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2229 Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
