| 5 | 12 | | relating to measures to support or enhance graduate medical |
|---|
| 6 | 13 | | education for the practice of podiatric medicine in this state. |

| 7 | 14 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 15 | | SECTION 1. Section 58A.001(5), Education Code, is amended |
|---|
| 9 | 16 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 17 | | (5) "Graduate medical education program" means: |
|---|
| 11 | 18 | | (A) a nationally accredited post-doctor of |
|---|
| 12 | 19 | | medicine (M.D.) or post-doctor of osteopathic medicine (D.O.) |
|---|
| 13 | 20 | | program that prepares physicians for the independent practice of |
|---|
| 14 | 21 | | medicine in a specific specialty area; and |
|---|
| 15 | 22 | | (B) a nationally accredited post-doctor of |
|---|
| 16 | 23 | | podiatric medicine (D.P.M.) program that prepares podiatrists for |
|---|
| 17 | 24 | | independent practice in the specialty area of podiatry. |
|---|
| 18 | 25 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 19 | 26 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 20 | 27 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 21 | 28 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 22 | 29 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
