| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 253, Election Code, is | |
| 11 | 11 | amended by adding Section 253.0411 to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Sec. 253.0411. RESTRICTION ON USE OF CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS | |
| 13 | 13 | MADE TO CANDIDATES FOR STATE OFFICE. A campaign contribution made | |
| 14 | 14 | to a candidate for statewide office or the legislature or to a | |
| 15 | 15 | specific-purpose committee supporting or opposing the candidate | |
| 16 | 16 | may not be expended to support or oppose a candidate for an office | |
| 17 | 17 | of a municipality. | |
| 18 | 18 | SECTION 2. Section 253.0411, Election Code, as added by | |
| 19 | 19 | this Act, applies only to a campaign contribution made on or after | |
| 20 | 20 | the effective date of this Act. A campaign contribution made before | |
| 21 | 21 | the effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect when | |
| 22 | 22 | the contribution was made and is not aggregated with campaign | |
| 23 | 23 | contributions made on or after that date. | |
| 24 | 24 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
