77 relating to electronic correction of voter registration
88 information.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 15.021, Election Code, is amended by
1111 amending Subsections (b) and (d) and adding Subsections (d-1) and
1212 (d-2) to read as follows:
1313 (b) Except as provided by Subsection (d), the [The] voter
1414 shall use the registration certificate or a registration
1515 application form as the notice, indicating the correct information
1616 in the appropriate space on the certificate or application form
1717 unless the voter does not have possession of the certificate or an
1818 application form at the time of giving the notice.
1919 (d) A voter [who continues to reside in the county in which
2020 the voter is registered] may correct information under this section
2121 by digital transmission of the information under a program
2222 administered by the secretary of state and the Department of
2323 Information Resources.
2424 (d-1) If the notice indicates that a voter no longer resides
2525 in the county in which the voter is registered, the registrar shall
2626 forward the notice and the voter's original application for
2727 registration to the registrar of the county in which the voter
2828 resides. The registrars shall coordinate to ensure that the
2929 voter's existing registration is canceled immediately after the
3030 voter is registered in the county in which the voter resides in
3131 accordance with Subsection (d-2).
3232 (d-2) A registrar who receives a voter's notice and
3333 application from another registrar under Subsection (d-1) shall
3434 treat it as an original application for registration under Section
3535 13.002, and shall register the voter if the voter resides in the
3636 county and is otherwise eligible under Section 13.001.
3737 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
