| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Chapter 180, Local Government Code, is amended | |
| 11 | 11 | by adding Section 180.008 to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Sec. 180.008. PROHIBITION ON CERTAIN LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY | |
| 13 | 13 | HIRING POLICIES RELATED TO CREDIT HISTORY. A law enforcement | |
| 14 | 14 | agency of a municipality or county may not adopt or enforce a hiring | |
| 15 | 15 | policy provision that: | |
| 16 | 16 | (1) automatically disqualifies from consideration | |
| 17 | 17 | peace officer position applicants because of poor credit history; | |
| 18 | 18 | and | |
| 19 | 19 | (2) considers credit history information about events | |
| 20 | 20 | that occurred more than five years before the date of application. | |
| 21 | 21 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
