| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Chapter 2272, Government Code, as added by |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Chapter 1287 (H.B. 1999), Acts of the 86th Legislature, Regular |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Session, 2019, is amended by adding Section 2272.010 to read as |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Sec. 2272.010. ACCRUAL OF CAUSE OF ACTION. For purposes of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | this chapter only, a cause of action accrues on the date the report |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | required by Section 2272.003 is postmarked by the United States |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Postal Service. For all other purposes, including the date of an |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | occurrence under an applicable insurance policy and the date a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | cause of action accrues for purposes of determining whether the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | action is barred by a statute of limitations or repose, the date of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the accrual of a cause of action is unaffected by this section. |

| 22 | 22 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
