8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Chapter 1, Election Code is amended by adding | |
10 | 10 | Section 1.022 as follows: | |
11 | 11 | Sec. 1.022. ALTERATIONS TO VOTING STANDARD, PRACTICE, OR | |
12 | 12 | PROCEDURE. An election official of the state or of a political | |
13 | 13 | subdivision may not create, alter or suspend any voting standard, | |
14 | 14 | practice, or procedure in a manner not expressly authorized by the | |
15 | 15 | this code. | |
16 | 16 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
17 | 17 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
18 | 18 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
19 | 19 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
20 | 20 | Act takes effect September 1, 2021 and applies to any election held | |
21 | 21 | after that date. |
