8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Section 607.054, Government Code, is amended as | |
10 | 10 | follows: | |
11 | 11 | Section 607.054. TUBERCULOSIS, SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19, OR | |
12 | 12 | OTHER RESPIRATORY ILLNESS. A public safety employee [firefighter, | |
13 | 13 | peace officer, or emergency medical technician] who is diagnosed | |
14 | 14 | with the virus SARS-CoV-2 or with coronavirus disease 2019 | |
15 | 15 | (COVID-19) by a test approved by the Centers for Disease Control and | |
16 | 16 | Prevention, suffers from tuberculosis, or any other disease or | |
17 | 17 | illness of the lungs or respiratory tract that has a statistically | |
18 | 18 | positive correlation with service as a firefighter, peace officer, | |
19 | 19 | or emergency medical technician, that results in death or total or | |
20 | 20 | partial disability is presumed to have contracted the disease or | |
21 | 21 | illness during the course and scope of employment as a firefighter, | |
22 | 22 | peace officer, or emergency medical technician. | |
23 | 23 | Section 2. This Act takes effect immediately. |
