| 7 | 7 | | relating to the time frame for passing certain licensing |

| 8 | 8 | | examinations for applicants seeking a license to practice medicine. |

| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 155.051(b), Occupations Code, is amended |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | (b) An applicant who is a graduate of a program designed to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | lead to both a doctor of philosophy degree and a doctor of medicine |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | degree or doctor of osteopathy degree must pass each part of an |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | examination described by Section 155.0511(2), (3), (4), (6), or (7) |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | not later than the earlier of the second anniversary of the date the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | applicant completed all [the] graduate medical training undertaken |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | by the applicant, including internship, residency, and fellowship, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | or the 12th anniversary of the date the applicant began the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | graduate medical training [described by Section 155.003(a)(5)]. |

| 21 | 21 | | SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | of this Act, the Texas Medical Board shall adopt rules necessary to |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | implement Section 155.051, Occupations Code, as amended by this |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Act. |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | SECTION 3. Section 155.051, Occupations Code, as amended by |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | this Act, applies to an application for a license to practice |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | medicine issued under Chapter 155, Occupations Code, regardless of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | whether the application is submitted before, on, or after the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | effective date of this Act. |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
