9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 32, Election Code, is | |
11 | 11 | amended by adding Section 32.116 to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | Sec. 32.116. TRAINING RELATED TO VOTERS WHO IDENTIFY AS | |
13 | 13 | TRANSGENDER. A program, standard, or material for training | |
14 | 14 | developed under this subchapter must include: | |
15 | 15 | (1) guidance for election workers to accept photo | |
16 | 16 | identification that may not align with a person's presenting gender | |
17 | 17 | expression or identity; and | |
18 | 18 | (2) information about voters who identify as | |
19 | 19 | transgender and their historical disenfranchisement. | |
20 | 20 | SECTION 2. Section 63.0101, Election Code, is amended by | |
21 | 21 | adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: | |
22 | 22 | (d) An indication of gender on a form of identification | |
23 | 23 | described by this section that does not align with the gender | |
24 | 24 | expression or identity of the person seeking to vote does not | |
25 | 25 | invalidate the form of identification for the purpose of accepting | |
26 | 26 | a voter for voting. | |
27 | 27 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
