| 8 | 15 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 16 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 499, Government Code, is |
|---|
| 10 | 17 | | amended by adding Section 499.156 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 18 | | Sec. 499.156. VOCATIONAL TRAINING. The department shall |
|---|
| 12 | 19 | | adopt a policy under which a representative of a public or private |
|---|
| 13 | 20 | | entity, including a public or private institution of higher |
|---|
| 14 | 21 | | education, may provide vocational training on a voluntary basis to |
|---|
| 15 | 22 | | inmates confined in a transfer facility authorized under this |
|---|
| 16 | 23 | | subchapter. |
|---|
| 17 | 24 | | SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date |
|---|
| 18 | 25 | | of this Act, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice shall adopt |
|---|
| 19 | 26 | | the policy required by Section 499.156, Government Code, as added |
|---|
| 20 | 27 | | by this Act. |
|---|
| 21 | 28 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
