66 AN ACT
77 relating to training for members of the governing body of a rural
88 hospital.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 241, Health and Safety
1111 Code, is amended by adding Section 241.012 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 241.012. TRAINING FOR GOVERNING BODY OF RURAL
1313 HOSPITAL. (a) In this section, "rural hospital" means a hospital
1414 licensed under this chapter that is:
1515 (1) located in a county with a population of less than
1616 60,000; or
1717 (2) designated by the Centers for Medicare and
1818 Medicaid Services as a critical access hospital, rural referral
1919 center, or sole community hospital and is not located in an area
2020 defined by the United States Office of Management and Budget as a
2121 metropolitan statistical area.
2222 (b) A rural hospital shall provide to a member of the
2323 hospital's governing body, on the member's request, an education
2424 and training course on the governing body's powers and duties and
2525 other appropriate topics.
2626 (c) The course provided under Subsection (b) must be:
2727 (1) developed using requirements and standards
2828 determined by the Center for Optimizing Rural Health of the Texas
2929 A&M Rural and Community Health Institute or a successor
3030 organization;
3131 (2) provided at no cost to the requesting member; and
3232 (3) available in an electronic format.
3333 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
