55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the designation of the day after the Super Bowl as a
88 state holiday.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 1.006(f)(2), Election Code, is amended
1111 to read as follows:
1212 (2) "State holiday" means a state holiday under
1313 Sections 662.003(b)(1) through (6), Government Code, and Section
1414 662.003(b)(9), Government Code.
1515 SECTION 2. Section 662.003(b), Government Code, is amended
1616 to read as follows:
1717 (b) A state holiday includes only the following days:
1818 (1) the 19th day of January, "Confederate Heroes Day,"
1919 in honor of Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and other Confederate
2020 heroes;
2121 (2) the second day of March, "Texas Independence Day";
2222 (3) the 21st day of April, "San Jacinto Day";
2323 (4) the 19th day of June, "Emancipation Day in Texas,"
2424 in honor of the emancipation of the slaves in Texas in 1865;
2525 (5) the 27th day of August, "Lyndon Baines Johnson
2626 Day," in observance of the birthday of Lyndon Baines Johnson;
2727 (6) the Friday after Thanksgiving Day;
2828 (7) the 24th day of December; [and]
2929 (8) the 26th day of December; and
3030 (9) the day after the Super Bowl.
3131 SECTION 3. Section 662.021, Government Code, is amended to
3232 read as follows:
3333 Sec. 662.021. DATES OF HOLIDAYS. A legal holiday includes
3434 only the following days:
3535 (1) a national holiday under Section 662.003(a); and
3636 (2) a state holiday under Sections 662.003(b)(1)
3737 through (6) and Section 662.003(b)(9).
3838 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
