| 7 | 7 | relating to a study on the long-term funding structure of the | |
| 8 | 8 | retired school employees group insurance fund. | |
| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. (a) In this section: | |
| 11 | 11 | (1) "Fund" means the retired school employees group | |
| 12 | 12 | insurance fund. | |
| 13 | 13 | (2) "Trustee" means the Teacher Retirement System of | |
| 14 | 14 | Texas. | |
| 15 | 15 | (b) The trustee shall conduct a study on the long-term | |
| 16 | 16 | funding structure of the fund. The study must: | |
| 17 | 17 | (1) evaluate projected long-term payments into the | |
| 18 | 18 | fund under Section 1575.302, Insurance Code; and | |
| 19 | 19 | (2) research potential alternative sources of | |
| 20 | 20 | payments or contributions to the fund. | |
| 21 | 21 | (c) Not later than December 1, 2022, the trustee shall | |
| 22 | 22 | submit to the governor, the lieutenant governor, the speaker of the | |
| 23 | 23 | house of representatives, and the standing committees of the | |
| 24 | 24 | legislature with primary jurisdiction over the trustee a written | |
| 25 | 25 | report that includes the results of the study conducted under | |
| 26 | 26 | Subsection (b) of this section and the trustee's recommendations | |
| 27 | 27 | for legislative or other action based on the study. | |
| 28 | 28 | (d) This section expires September 1, 2023. | |
| 29 | 29 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
