| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 521.460(b), Transportation Code, is | |
| 11 | 11 | amended to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (b) A person may not rent a motor vehicle to another person | |
| 13 | 13 | until: | |
| 14 | 14 | (1) inspecting the driver's license of the renter and | |
| 15 | 15 | comparing and verifying the signature on the renter's driver's | |
| 16 | 16 | license with the renter's signature written in the person's | |
| 17 | 17 | presence; and | |
| 18 | 18 | (2) if the renter is a resident of this state, | |
| 19 | 19 | verifying with the department, or a private vendor that has | |
| 20 | 20 | contracted with the department under Section 521.055(e), that the | |
| 21 | 21 | renter's driver's license is valid. | |
| 22 | 22 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
