| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 1301.001(a), Government Code, is amended | |
| 11 | 11 | to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (a) The commissioners court of a county may issue bonds | |
| 13 | 13 | authorized under Subtitle A and Chapter 1251 to: | |
| 14 | 14 | (1) build a county courthouse or jail; | |
| 15 | 15 | (2) purchase suitable sites in the county and to | |
| 16 | 16 | construct buildings on the sites for homes or schools for dependent | |
| 17 | 17 | or delinquent children; | |
| 18 | 18 | (3) establish county facilities for needy or indigent | |
| 19 | 19 | persons in the county; | |
| 20 | 20 | (4) purchase and construct bridges for public purposes | |
| 21 | 21 | in the county or to cross a stream serving as the county's boundary | |
| 22 | 22 | line; [or] | |
| 23 | 23 | (5) improve and maintain the public roads in the | |
| 24 | 24 | county; or | |
| 25 | 25 | (6) restore or maintain a county courthouse. | |
| 26 | 26 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 27 | 27 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 28 | 28 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 29 | 29 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 30 | 30 | Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
