| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 63.0101, Election Code, is amended by | |
| 11 | 11 | adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (d) A person whose name has changed not more than two years | |
| 13 | 13 | before the date the person offers to vote may present | |
| 14 | 14 | identification that shows a name of the voter that does not match | |
| 15 | 15 | the name on the precinct list of registered voters if the person | |
| 16 | 16 | also presents: | |
| 17 | 17 | (1) certified documentation of the name change that | |
| 18 | 18 | shows: | |
| 19 | 19 | (A) the name of the voter shown on the precinct | |
| 20 | 20 | list of registered voters; and | |
| 21 | 21 | (B) the name of the voter shown on the | |
| 22 | 22 | identification presented; or | |
| 23 | 23 | (2) citizenship documentation that shows that the | |
| 24 | 24 | voter recently took a new name as part of the citizenship process. | |
| 25 | 25 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
