7	5		A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
8	6		AN ACT
9	7		relating to the trauma-informed care policy for school districts
10	8		and open-enrollment charter schools.
11	9		BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
12	10		SECTION 1. Section 38.036(b), Education Code, is amended to
13	11		read as follows:
14	12		(b) A policy required by this section must address:
15	13		(1) using resources developed by the agency, methods
16	14		for:
17	15		(A) increasing staff and parent awareness of
18	16		trauma-informed care; and
19	17		(B) implementation of trauma-informed practices
20	18		and care by district and campus staff; [and]
21	19		(2) available counseling options for students
22	20		affected by trauma or grief; and
23	21		(3) the district's plan for providing support to
24	22		students, teachers, and district staff in the event of a crisis,
25		-	including through methods such as psychological first aid and
26		-	referrals to district mental health professionals, if available,
27		-	and community providers for mental health services.

28	25		SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2021-2022
29	26		school year.
30	27		SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
31	28		a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
32	29		provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
33	30		Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
34	31		Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
