97 relating to the trauma-informed care policy for school districts
108 and open-enrollment charter schools.
119 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1210 SECTION 1. Section 38.036(b), Education Code, is amended to
1311 read as follows:
1412 (b) A policy required by this section must address:
1513 (1) using resources developed by the agency, methods
1614 for:
1715 (A) increasing staff and parent awareness of
1816 trauma-informed care; and
1917 (B) implementation of trauma-informed practices
2018 and care by district and campus staff; [and]
2119 (2) available counseling options for students
2220 affected by trauma or grief; and
2321 (3) the district's plan for providing support to
2422 students, teachers, and district staff in the event of a crisis,
25- including through methods such as psychological first aid and
26- referrals to district mental health professionals, if available,
27- and community providers for mental health services.

2825 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2021-2022
2926 school year.
3027 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3128 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3229 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3330 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3431 Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
