| 11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 24, Government Code, is |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | amended by adding Section 24.60023 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Sec. 24.60023. 479TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT (MAVERICK COUNTY). |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | The 479th Judicial District is composed of Maverick County. |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | SECTION 2. Section 43.177, Government Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Sec. 43.177. 293RD JUDICIAL DISTRICT. (a) The voters of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Dimmit and Zavala Counties [the 293rd Judicial District] elect a |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | district attorney who represents the state in [all] cases before |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | that district court only in those counties. |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (b) The commissioners court of Dimmit or Zavala County [one |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | or more of the counties comprising the district] may supplement the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | state salary of the district attorney. The commissioners court of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | each county may set the amount of supplemental compensation paid by |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | that county. |

| 27 | 27 | | SECTION 3. Subchapter B, Chapter 43, Government Code, is |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | amended by adding Section 43.185 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Sec. 43.185. 479TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT. The voters of the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | 479th Judicial District elect a district attorney who represents |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | the state in all matters in the district courts having jurisdiction |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | in Maverick County. |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | SECTION 4. The 479th Judicial District and the office of |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | district attorney for the 479th Judicial District are created on |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | the effective date of this Act. |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | SECTION 5. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
