66 AN ACT
77 relating to the creation of an additional judicial district
88 composed of Maverick County, the creation of the office of district
99 attorney for that judicial district, and the duties of the district
1010 attorney for the 293rd Judicial District.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 24, Government Code, is
1313 amended by adding Section 24.60023 to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 24.60023. 479TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT (MAVERICK COUNTY).
1515 The 479th Judicial District is composed of Maverick County.
1616 SECTION 2. Section 43.177, Government Code, is amended to
1717 read as follows:
1818 Sec. 43.177. 293RD JUDICIAL DISTRICT. (a) The voters of
1919 Dimmit and Zavala Counties [the 293rd Judicial District] elect a
2020 district attorney who represents the state in [all] cases before
2121 that district court only in those counties.
2222 (b) The commissioners court of Dimmit or Zavala County [one
2323 or more of the counties comprising the district] may supplement the
2424 state salary of the district attorney. The commissioners court of
2525 each county may set the amount of supplemental compensation paid by
2626 that county.
2727 SECTION 3. Subchapter B, Chapter 43, Government Code, is
2828 amended by adding Section 43.185 to read as follows:
2929 Sec. 43.185. 479TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT. The voters of the
3030 479th Judicial District elect a district attorney who represents
3131 the state in all matters in the district courts having jurisdiction
3232 in Maverick County.
3333 SECTION 4. The 479th Judicial District and the office of
3434 district attorney for the 479th Judicial District are created on
3535 the effective date of this Act.
3636 SECTION 5. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
