119 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1210 SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 1701, Occupations Code, is
1311 amended by adding Section 1701.165 to read as follows:
1412 Sec. 1701.165. REPORT ON PEACE OFFICER SALARIES. (a) Not
15- later than December 1, 2022, the commission shall submit a report
16- regarding peace officer salaries in this state to the governor, the
17- lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house of representatives,
18- and each standing committee of the legislature with primary
19- jurisdiction over the commission.
13+ later than November 1 of each even-numbered year, the commission
14+ shall submit a report regarding peace officer salaries in this
15+ state to the governor, the lieutenant governor, the speaker of the
16+ house of representatives, and each standing committee of the
17+ legislature with primary jurisdiction over the commission.
2018 (b) The report must include:
2119 (1) salary information categorized by law enforcement
2220 agency size, based on the population residing in the agency's
2321 jurisdiction; and
2422 (2) for each category under Subdivision (1), a
2523 comparison of:
2624 (A) officer salaries to cost of living; and
2725 (B) officer salaries in this state to officer
2826 salaries in other states.
2927 (c) A law enforcement agency shall provide any information
3028 requested by the commission to prepare the report.
31- (d) This section expires January 1, 2023.
3229 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
