44 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
55 AN ACT
66 relating to judges compensation to conduct marriage ceremonies in
77 the State of Texas; creating a criminal offense.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section Sec. 2.202, Family Code, is amended by
1010 adding Subsection (e) to read as follows:
1111 (e) A current judicial officeholder commits an offense if
1212 the person knowingly agrees to accept, directly or indirectly,
1313 overtly or covertly any remuneration in cash or in kind to or from
1414 another for conducting a marriage ceremony. An offense under this
1515 subsection is a Class B Misdemeanor.
1616 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
