9- relating to the powers and duties of the State Commission on
10- Judicial Conduct.
6+ relating to the authority and jurisdiction conferred to the State
7+ Commission on Judicial Conduct.
118 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
12- SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 33, Government Code, is
13- amended by adding Section 33.02105 to read as follows:
14- Sec. 33.02105. CANDIDATE FOR JUDICIAL OFFICE. The
15- commission may accept complaints, conduct investigations, and take
16- any other action authorized by this chapter or Section 1-a, Article
17- V, Texas Constitution, with respect to a candidate for judicial
18- office who is subject to Subchapter F, Chapter 253, Election Code,
19- in the same manner the commission is authorized to take those
20- actions with respect to a judge.
21- SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
9+ SECTION 1. Section Sec. 33.001(a)(8), Government Code, is
10+ amended to read as follows:
11+ (8) "Judge" means a justice, judge, master,
12+ magistrate, or retired or former judge as described by Section 1-a,
13+ Article V, Texas Constitution, including a candidate for a judicial
14+ office subject to the Judicial Campaign Fairness Act, or other
15+ person who performs the functions of the justice, judge, master,
16+ magistrate, or retired or former judge.
17+ SECTION 2. Section Sec. 33.002, Government Code, is amended
18+ by adding Subsection (a-2) to read as follows:
19+ (a-2) The State Commission on Judicial Conduct shall have
20+ the authority to enforce the Code of Judicial Conduct and
21+ administer discipline as it relates to judicial candidates.
22+ SECTION 3.This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
