| 8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Section 41.002, Election Code, is amended to |

| 10 | 10 | | read as follows: |

| 11 | 11 | | Sec. 41.002. GENERAL ELECTION FOR STATE AND COUNTY |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | OFFICERS. The general election for state and county officers shall |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | odd-numbered [even-numbered] years. |

| 15 | 15 | | SECTION 2. Section 41.007, Election Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | read as follows: |

| 17 | 17 | | Sec. 41.007. PRIMARY ELECTIONS. (a) The general primary |

| 18 | 18 | | election date is the first Tuesday in September [March] in each |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | odd-numbered [even-numbered] year. |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (b) The runoff primary election date is the fourth Tuesday |

| 21 | 21 | | in September [fourth Tuesday in May] following the general primary |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | election. |

| 23 | 23 | | (c) The presidential primary election date is the first |

| 24 | 24 | | Tuesday in March in each presidential election year. |

| 25 | 25 | | (d) No other election may be held on the date of a primary |

| 27 | 27 | | SECTION 3. Section 172.023(a), Election Code, is amended to |
