| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 253, Election Code, is | |
| 11 | 11 | amended by adding Section 253.008 to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Sec. 253.008. LIMITATION ON CERTAIN CAMPAIGN | |
| 13 | 13 | CONTRIBUTIONS. A person may not knowingly make or authorize the | |
| 14 | 14 | making of a campaign contribution to a candidate for the | |
| 15 | 15 | legislature, or to a specific-purpose committee supporting the | |
| 16 | 16 | candidate or opposing the candidate's opponent, in an amount that | |
| 17 | 17 | exceeds $10,000 for the primary or general election in which the | |
| 18 | 18 | candidate is involved. | |
| 19 | 19 | SECTION 2. Section 253.008, Election Code, as added by this | |
| 20 | 20 | Act, applies only to a campaign contribution made on or after the | |
| 21 | 21 | effective date of this Act. A campaign contribution made before the | |
| 22 | 22 | effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect when the | |
| 23 | 23 | contribution was made and is not aggregated with campaign | |
| 24 | 24 | contributions made on or after that date. | |
| 25 | 25 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
