8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 38, Utilities Code, is | |
10 | 10 | amended by adding Section 38.0725 to read as follows: | |
11 | 11 | Sec. 38.0725. PRIORITIES FOR POWER RESTORATION TO CERTAIN | |
12 | 12 | CUSTOMERS. (a) The commission by rule shall require each retail | |
13 | 13 | electric provider to implement a process by which a customer of the | |
14 | 14 | provider may report to the provider that the customer has a serious | |
15 | 15 | medical condition that requires an electric-powered device. | |
16 | 16 | (b) A retail electric provider shall maintain customer | |
17 | 17 | information reported under this section to allow the retail | |
18 | 18 | electric provider to quickly identify vulnerable customers during a | |
19 | 19 | power outage and notify the relevant transmission and distribution | |
20 | 20 | utilities to prioritize those customers for power restoration. | |
21 | 21 | SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date | |
22 | 22 | of this Act, the Public Utility Commission of Texas shall adopt the | |
23 | 23 | rules required by Section 38.0725, Utilities Code, as added by this | |
24 | 24 | Act. | |
25 | 25 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
