95 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
106 AN ACT
117 relating to the approval of career and technology courses by the
128 State Board of Education.
139 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1410 SECTION 1. Section 28.002(o), Education Code, is amended to
1511 read as follows:
1612 (o) In approving career and technology courses, the State
1713 Board of Education must:
1814 (1) determine that at least 50 percent of the approved
1915 courses are cost-effective for a school district to implement; and
2016 (2) in scheduling or initiating a course review to
2117 provide updated and relevant course offerings, consider relevant
2218 economic and market conditions affecting the workforce of this
2319 state.
2420 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2021-2022
2521 school year.
2622 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2723 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2824 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2925 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3026 Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
