13 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

14 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 28.002(o), Education Code, is amended to |
---|
15 | 11 | | read as follows: |
---|
16 | 12 | | (o) In approving career and technology courses, the State |
---|
17 | 13 | | Board of Education must: |
---|
18 | 14 | | (1) determine that at least 50 percent of the approved |
---|
19 | 15 | | courses are cost-effective for a school district to implement; and |
---|
20 | 16 | | (2) in scheduling or initiating a course review to |
---|
21 | 17 | | provide updated and relevant course offerings, consider relevant |
---|
22 | 18 | | economic and market conditions affecting the workforce of this |
---|
23 | 19 | | state. |
---|
24 | 20 | | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2021-2022 |
---|
25 | 21 | | school year. |
---|
26 | 22 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
27 | 23 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
28 | 24 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
29 | 25 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
30 | 26 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
