8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Section 607.054, Government Code, is amended as | |
10 | 10 | follows: | |
11 | 11 | Sec. 607.054. TUBERCULOSIS, SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19, OR OTHER | |
12 | 12 | RESPIRATORY ILLNESS. | |
13 | 13 | (a) A firefighter, peace officer, or emergency medical | |
14 | 14 | technician who suffers from tuberculosis, or any other disease or | |
15 | 15 | illness of the lungs or respiratory tract that has a statistically | |
16 | 16 | positive correlation with service as a firefighter, peace officer, | |
17 | 17 | or emergency medical technician, that results in death or total or | |
18 | 18 | partial disability is presumed to have contracted the disease or | |
19 | 19 | illness during the course and scope of employment as a firefighter, | |
20 | 20 | peace officer, or emergency medical technician. | |
21 | 21 | (b) An employee of a school district who is diagnosed with | |
22 | 22 | the virus SARS-CoV-2 or with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) by | |
23 | 23 | a test approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention | |
24 | 24 | that results in death or total or partial disability is presumed to | |
25 | 25 | have contracted the disease or illness during the course and scope | |
26 | 26 | of employment as an employee of a school district. | |
27 | 27 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately. |
