55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the issuance of a physician's license to an applicant
88 licensed as a physician in another state.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 155, Occupations Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 155.012 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 155.012. ISSUANCE OF LICENSE TO PHYSICIAN LICENSED IN
1313 ANOTHER STATE. (a) Notwithstanding any other law, the board shall
1414 issue an unrestricted license under this chapter to an applicant
1515 who is licensed in good standing as a physician in another state and
1616 who satisfies the requirements of this section.
1717 (b) The board may not issue a license under this section to
1818 an applicant who:
1919 (1) has had a medical license suspended or revoked by
2020 another state or a Canadian province; or
2121 (2) holds a medical license issued by another state or
2222 a Canadian province that is subject to a restriction, disciplinary
2323 order, or probationary order.
2424 (c) An applicant under this section must:
2525 (1) have passed a national or other examination
2626 recognized by the board relating to the practice of medicine within
2727 the number of attempts allowed under Section 155.056 or 155.0561,
2828 as applicable; and
2929 (2) submit information to enable the board to conduct
3030 a criminal background check as required by the board.
3131 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
3232 to an applicant for a physician license who submits an application
3333 on or after January 1, 2022.
3434 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
