| 10 | 10 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 11 | 11 | SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 51, Education Code, is | |
| 12 | 12 | amended by adding Section 51.91941 to read as follows: | |
| 13 | 13 | Sec. 51.91941. SUICIDE PREVENTION INFORMATION REQUIRED ON | |
| 14 | 14 | STUDENT IDENTIFICATION CARD. (a) In this section, "institution of | |
| 15 | 15 | higher education" has the meaning assigned by Section 61.003. | |
| 16 | 16 | (b) Each student identification card issued by an | |
| 17 | 17 | institution of higher education must have printed on the card the | |
| 18 | 18 | contact information for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. | |
| 19 | 19 | SECTION 2. Section 51.91941, Education Code, as added by | |
| 20 | 20 | this Act, applies beginning with student identification cards | |
| 21 | 21 | issued for the 2021 fall semester. | |
| 22 | 22 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 23 | 23 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 24 | 24 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 25 | 25 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 26 | 26 | Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
