56 AN ACT
67 relating to creating abbreviated educator preparation programs for
78 certification in marketing education and certification in health
89 science technology education.
910 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1011 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 21, Education Code, is
1112 amended by adding Section 21.0444 to read as follows:
1213 Sec. 21.0444. EDUCATOR PREPARATION PROGRAMS FOR MARKETING
1314 EDUCATION CERTIFICATE AND FOR HEALTH SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION
1415 CERTIFICATE. (a) The board shall propose rules under this
1516 subchapter to create abbreviated educator preparation programs for
1617 a person seeking:
1718 (1) a certification to teach courses in marketing; and
1819 (2) a certification to teach courses in health science
1920 technology.
2021 (b) In proposing rules for educator preparation programs
21- under this section, the board shall ensure that:
22- (1) each program requires at least 200 hours of
23- coursework or training; and
24- (2) persons certified under the programs may not be
25- issued additional certifications based on the person's performance
26- on an examination prescribed under Section 21.048.

2724 SECTION 2. The State Board for Educator Certification shall
2825 propose rules establishing standards to govern the approval and
2926 renewal of approval of educator preparation programs for
3027 certification in marketing education and certification in health
3128 science technology education.
3229 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3330 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3431 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3532 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3633 Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
