9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 39, Utilities Code, is | |
11 | 11 | amended by adding Section 39.113 to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | Sec. 39.113. CRITICAL CARE VETERINARIAN CUSTOMER | |
13 | 13 | DESIGNATION. (a) In this section, "veterinarian" has the meaning | |
14 | 14 | assigned by Section 801.002, Occupations Code. | |
15 | 15 | (b) The commission by rule shall: | |
16 | 16 | (1) establish a protection program for veterinarians | |
17 | 17 | with electric-powered equipment or medical devices considered | |
18 | 18 | crucial for the health or safety of animals under the | |
19 | 19 | veterinarian's care that: | |
20 | 20 | (A) notifies the customer of interruptions or | |
21 | 21 | suspensions in service; and | |
22 | 22 | (B) provides certain disconnection protections | |
23 | 23 | to prevent harm to animals under the veterinarian's care; | |
24 | 24 | (2) create a status designation application process | |
25 | 25 | for the program; and | |
26 | 26 | (3) require transmission and distribution utilities | |
27 | 27 | to accept status designation applications from veterinarians. | |
28 | 28 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
