56 WHEREAS, The Del Valle Community Coalition has demonstrated a
67 steadfast commitment to supporting area residents during the
78 COVID-19 pandemic and the accompanying economic crisis, as well as
89 in the aftermath of Winter Storm Uri; and
910 WHEREAS, The unprecedented circumstances of the past year
1011 have placed immense burdens on our communities, including strains
1112 on health care resources, loss of jobs, business closures, and
1213 damage to homes, and the members of the Del Valle Community
1314 Coalition have set an inspiring example of civic leadership by
1415 continuing to serve others and working toward the greater good; in
1516 so doing, they have been a source of guidance and relief to many
1617 individuals; and
1718 WHEREAS, A nonprofit charitable organization, the Del Valle
1819 Community Coalition works to increase health care coverage,
1920 advocate for environmental regulation, and find new strategies to
2021 increase food access in underprivileged and underserved
2122 communities; on August 29, 2020, the group partnered with the
2223 Austin Latino Coalition to host a drive for personal protective
2324 equipment to limit the spread of COVID-19; after Winter Storm Uri,
2425 the coalition deployed food trucks to 13 locations to serve nearly
2526 8,000 meals to residents in need and held eight events to distribute
2627 more than 2,000 boxes of food and 4,000 cases of water; and
2728 WHEREAS, Since then, the Del Valle Community Coalition has
2829 organized many other important initiatives, including the
2930 distribution of food, water, household supplies, and personal
3031 protective equipment, as well as numerous COVID-19 vaccine
3132 distribution events in east and southeast Travis County; and
3233 WHEREAS, The tireless dedication of the Del Valle Community
3334 Coalition has made a positive difference in the lives of countless
3435 Texans during a time of crisis, and the organization is truly
3536 deserving of special recognition for its efforts; now, therefore,
3637 be it
3738 RESOLVED, That the 87th Legislature of the State of Texas
3839 hereby honor the Del Valle Community Coalition for its outstanding
3940 service to the community and extend to its members sincere best
4041 wishes for continued success in their important work; and, be it
4142 further
4243 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4344 prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4445 House of Representatives and Senate.
