| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, In recent years, the Central Texas community of Kyle |

| 7 | 7 | | has begun to garner attention as the Lone Star State's premier |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | source of delicious pies; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Kyle is home to the Texas Pie Company, where owner |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Julie Albertson has been baking her signature products for retail |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | and wholesale customers for more than two decades; during that |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | time, the business has grown from selling a few pies each day to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | selling up to 300, with three-quarters of those purchases being |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | made by people from out of town; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Recognizing the community's importance in purveying |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | these prized baked goods, city leaders have found numerous ways to |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | build on that reputation; Kyle has hosted the annual Pie in the Sky |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Hot Air Balloon Festival since 2017, and the mayor has proclaimed |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | January 23 as Pie Day, which coincides with the national |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | celebration of the dish; almost two months later, residents |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | continue the fun with a pun, as they commemorate National Pi (p-i) |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Day on March 14; moreover, the city has joined the American Pie |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Council and has been granted a pie-related trademark from the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | U.S. Patent and Trademark Office; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Other local enterprises have also begun |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | incorporating pie into their operations, with more than 40 |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | businesses joining the city's "CertiPIEd" business initiative; the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Hampton Inn gives out pie-shaped and scented candles to guests, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Broadway Bank is sponsoring pie-eating contests, and Sky Realty |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Kyle presents pies to customers who buy a home; looking to expand |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | the brand, the city is actively recruiting pie-making companies and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | pie restaurants to move to Kyle; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Whether it's pecan pie, apple pie, blueberry pie, or |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | pot pie, a pie is an occasion for celebration and delight, and the |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | people of Kyle are making this beloved dish a special focus of their |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | identity as a community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the 87th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | hereby designate Kyle as the official Pie Capital of Texas; and, be |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | it further |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | 391.003(e), Government Code, this designation remain in effect |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | passed by the legislature. |
