| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Histotechnology Professionals Day, which is |

| 7 | 7 | | observed on March 10, provides an opportunity to educate the public |

| 8 | 8 | | about the field of histotechnology and to give recognition to the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | vital contributions of histologists; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Histotechnology is the science of detecting tissue |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | abnormalities that indicate diseases such as cancer; |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | histotechnicians are specialized laboratory workers who employ a |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | chemical staining process to help distinguish tissue structures, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | while histotechnologists additionally perform more complex |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | procedures, such as electron microscopy and enzyme histochemistry, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | to ensure the most accurate diagnosis possible for the patient; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Working in histology requires excellent |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | problem-solving skills, astute attention to detail, and an ability |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | to function well under pressure; histotechnology professionals |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | must skillfully apply sophisticated laboratory techniques for |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | diagnostic and research purposes, which have significant |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | implications for the medical field and for the people it serves; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | these individuals are dedicated to maintaining high standards of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | practice, while continuously honing their expertise through |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | lifelong education and credentialing; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Histotechnology Professionals Day acknowledges the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | integral role that the men and women of this field play in the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | effective diagnosis and treatment of patients, and their service to |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | our state is indeed deserving of special commendation; now, |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | therefore, be it |

| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the 87th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | hereby designate March 10 as Histotechnology Professionals Day; |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | and, be it further |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | 391.004(d), Government Code, this designation remain in effect |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | passed by the legislature. |
