55 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
66 WHEREAS, Texans over the age of 60 represent one of the Lone
77 Star State's greatest resources, serving as invaluable sources of
88 knowledge, experience, and wisdom as well as engaged members of
99 their communities; and
1010 WHEREAS, Texas is home to an estimated 5.3 million people age
1111 60 and above, and by the year 2030, it is expected that more than 20
1212 percent of the state's population will be senior citizens; and
1313 WHEREAS, Senior Texans have provided decades of service to
1414 our state and nation, playing a vital role in building the public
1515 and private sectors and in enriching Texas culture; as parents and
1616 grandparents, they are revered for educating, mentoring, and
1717 inspiring generations of younger residents; and
1818 WHEREAS, Over the course of their lives, seniors have helped
1919 the state achieve greatness in a vast range of pursuits, including
2020 those as varied as agriculture, education, industry, information
2121 technology, literature, music, the visual and performing arts,
2222 medicine, science, and space exploration; moreover, Texas is home
2323 to a multitude of senior veterans who helped defend the United
2424 States through the sacrifices they made as members of the armed
2525 forces; and
2626 WHEREAS, In addition to their past accomplishments, senior
2727 Texans are active and involved citizens who continue to make
2828 important contributions in their communities; whether putting
2929 their skills and expertise to use as volunteers or distinguishing
3030 themselves as civic and business leaders, their efforts are
3131 integral to the state's vibrancy and prosperity; and
3232 WHEREAS, Revered as role models for their exemplary service
3333 to others, the seniors of the Lone Star State draw on a lifetime of
3434 achievements to make a positive difference in the Texas of today,
3535 and they are indeed deserving of special recognition; now,
3636 therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the 87th Legislature of the State of Texas
3838 hereby designate August 21 as Texas Senior Day; and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section
4040 391.004(d), Government Code, this designation remain in effect
4141 until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally
4242 passed by the legislature.
