5+ CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
106 WHEREAS, The people of Texas are fortunate to reside in a vast
117 state that encompasses numerous ecosystems and a rich assortment of
128 plant and animal life; and
139 WHEREAS, Ranging from the lush forests of East Texas to the
1410 majestic desert landscape of the Big Bend, from the windswept
1511 grasslands of the Panhandle to the barrier islands of the Gulf
1612 Coast, these habitats are home to countless species of trees and
1713 other vegetation; they are also populated by an immense variety of
1814 wildlife, including such signature Texas animals as the javelina,
1915 the western diamondback rattlesnake, the roadrunner, and the
2016 armadillo, as well as such impressive and rarely seen creatures as
2117 the mountain lion, the black bear, and the peregrine falcon; and
2218 WHEREAS, These resources benefit the state in many ways;
2319 Texans young and old have abundant opportunities to enjoy
2420 recreational pursuits and to learn about the wonders of the natural
2521 world, and the great Texas outdoors contributes to economic
2622 vitality as well; visitors are drawn to the state for fishing,
2723 hunting, birding, hiking, boating, and myriad other activities that
2824 boost tourism and create jobs; and
2925 WHEREAS, The diverse plants, animals, and habitats of the
3026 Lone Star State are a source of great pride to the people of Texas,
3127 and it is indeed appropriate to celebrate this rich heritage and to
3228 highlight the importance of preserving it for future generations;
3329 now, therefore, be it
3430 RESOLVED, That the 87th Legislature of the State of Texas
3531 hereby designate November as Texas Wildlife and Conservation Month;
3632 and, be it further
3733 RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section
3834 391.004(d), Government Code, this designation remain in effect
3935 until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally
4036 passed by the legislature.
