8	6		WHEREAS, Residents and friends of the United States will mark
9	7		the 250th anniversary of the nation's founding on July 4, 2026, and
10		-	the United States Semiquincentennial Commission is working
11		-	tirelessly to organize and facilitate the observance of this
12		-	milestone; and
	8	+	America 250 is working tirelessly to organize and facilitate the
	9	+	observance of this milestone; and
13	10		WHEREAS, Established by the Semiquincentennial Commission
14		-	Act of 2016, the United States Semiquincentennial Commission is a
15		-	federal commission that collaborates with affiliates at the local,
16		-	territorial, state, tribal, regional, national, and international
17		-	levels; the initiative strives to educate, engage, and unite
18		-	Americans throughout a commemorative period that ranges from 2020
19		-	to 2027, and its efforts will culminate in the Fourth of July events
20		-	of 2026; and
21		-	WHEREAS, As of March 10, 2021, 11 states have established
22		-	organizations to highlight themselves in the 250th commemoration by
23		-	planning and implementing programs that honor the history and
24		-	culture of the United States and those states' contributions,
25		-	including public art displays, museum exhibitions, and educational
26		-	curriculums, and the commission expects the widest participation to
27		-	occur through state and local projects like these; and

	22	+	participation to occur through state and local projects like these;
	23	+	and
28	24		WHEREAS, Since the adoption of the Declaration of
29	25		Independence in 1776, Americans have treasured the rights to life,
30	26		liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and Texas can pay tribute to
31		-	these important values and highlight its contributions to them by
32		-	joining in the celebration of the United States' 250th anniversary;
33		-	now, therefore, be it

34	29		RESOLVED, That the 87th Legislature of the State of Texas
35		-	hereby create the Texas America 250 Commission and work jointly

39		-	RESOLVED, That the commission include any federal designees
40		-	residing in the state as well as a member or designee of each of the
41		-	following commissions and departments: the Office of the Governor,
42		-	Economic Development and Tourism; the Texas Parks and Wildlife
43		-	Commission; the State Board of Education; the Bullock Texas State
44		-	History Museum; the Texas State Library and Archives Commission;
45		-	and other related historical organizations; and, be it further
46		-	RESOLVED, That the commission may enter into a contract with
47		-	one or more nonprofit entities for the purposes of supporting the
48		-	activities and mission of the commission, soliciting and accepting
49		-	private donations and public funds, grants, and donations in order
50		-	to carry out the purposes of the commission; and, be it further
51		-	RESOLVED, That the commission and partnership be abolished on
52		-	December 31, 2026.

	31	+	the federal America 250 commission to help celebrate the
	32	+	semiquincentennial of the United States; and, be it further
	33	+	RESOLVED, That the commission will include any federal
	34	+	designees residing in the state as well as a member or designee of
	35	+	each of the following commissions and departments: the Office of
	36	+	the Governor, Economic Development and Tourism; the Texas Parks and
	37	+	Wildlife Commission; the State Board of Education; the Bullock
	38	+	Texas State History Museum; and the Texas State Library and
	39	+	Archives Commission; and, be it further
	40	+	RESOLVED, That the commission be funded solely through
	41	+	donations and federal funds and that it be abolished on December 31,
	42	+	2026.
