55 A JOINT RESOLUTION
66 proposing a constitutional amendment requiring this state to
77 observe daylight saving time year-round.
88 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is amended by
1010 adding Section 74 to read as follows:
1111 Sec. 74. (a) This state, if authorized by federal law,
1212 shall observe daylight saving time year-round throughout the state.
1313 (b) This section applies to all portions of the state,
1414 regardless of time zone.
1515 (c) Subsections (a) and (b) of this section apply only if
1616 the United States Congress enacts legislation that becomes law that
1717 authorizes this state to observe daylight saving time as prescribed
1818 by this section. If such federal legislation becomes law,
1919 Subsections (a) and (b) of this section apply beginning on the first
2020 date, after the date that federal law takes effect, on which this
2121 state would otherwise have switched from observing daylight saving
2222 time to observing standard time.
2323 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
2424 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 2, 2021.
2525 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
2626 proposition: "The constitutional amendment requiring this state to
2727 observe daylight saving time year-round."
